Old thread but I thought I would add this about non water proof speakers. Old school method of water proofing any speaker is to use wood varnish. You just paint it on the paper cone.

I used Kuryakyn sound of chrome pre amp speakers with mp4 , cell phone and Sirius radio . Works great in all weather and is very loud .
