Always remove spark plugs when checking or adjusting valves. Makes the job MUCH easier.

That's why you can buy angled feeler gauges.

You mean the valve cover gasket, I hope.

Yeah, removing the plug would make the compression a non-issue. Good point. I took the plug wire off, but left the plug in.

You are correct that I meant the Valve Cover, not the "head". I corrected that in my post.

The manual shows flat feelers, so I figured I could use the ones I have. I'll look into a set of angled feelers for any future valve checks, but I still think it's going to be tough to get anything in there! Especially the upper, intake valve. If the feeler was 1/2 the width, THAT would make a difference as well.

I have to say, I don't know if it's the new oil, or that minuscule exhaust valve adjustment, but the engine seems "smoother" since my "service"! :lol:

side note: feeler gauges can be bought separately at any decent tool shop or even coming from a roll, so if you want you can buy 1 foot of gauge 0.25
Brand like Gedore have a whole array of feelers in all sort of sets (odd sizes and shapes)
The same goes for "odd" sizes like the 0.16 mm which the workshop manual prescribes for the inlet valve, there are sets containing that one or if your lucky you can buy just that one.
And off course you can reshape feelers and bend them in any shape you like, grind them to a smaller size etc etc.( be sure to deburr them with emery paper)

Just buy one set and sacrifice it to make the "special" feelers you need....
Failure is not an option, it comes bundled with the package.

I wonder how is the valve going at 700 miles? Need serious adjustment? Or just slightly?

As I said in my post, the intake was perfect, no adjustment necessary. The exhaust needed a TINY counter-clockwise turn to open it up, but that adjustment was probably not even necessary.

Also, some have asked if I took pictures, but I did not. The shop manual really shows everything you need to know.

Today I was in Honda service, and gave my SH for valve adjustement. From last adjustement I did 8000km, and today I asked service about how big adjustements was needed.

Man from service said, that exhaust valve was OK (didn't need adjustement) and suction valve was adjusted about 0,01mm.

So in my opinion there is no need to make it every 4000km (as shown in guarantee)

Thanks for the post! I'm glad to hear you can do the check/adjustment without taking all the bodywork off. That was by far the most labor intensive part last time, and I had nothing to check under all that stuff. The service manual has you strip the seat off and everything down to the gas tank, which does give nice access to the engine, but took most of the day to do the check.
