Agree. I have yet to have to replace at ~18k and I use only the front 90% of the time. I also ride such that braking is seldom necessary if one stays either ahead or behind, outside the herd......

Ok... the front wheel is back from the shop... tire is mounted correctly with tread pointed "backward"...

I pulled pins from the caliper and removed pads... they are at 4mm (new is 6mm)... replacing them anyway and bagging the old ones for use later if needed.

I need to grab a can of brake cleaner tomorrow... as the caliper is amazingly dirty for as much pad is left... I will look at brake fluid also....

I will look for a simple brake bleed pump as I am considering a set of slotted discs & pads on the Scion when I bolt the summer wheels/tires on...

I use this pump on the bike and just used it to bleed the system on the car that I seldom ever use.
It is surprisingly well made and serves a number of functions......

For the bike alone you can easily get by with only this.......

This winter, I rolled around in the gravel outside in the snow and replaced EVERY braking component including brake-lines on the 19 year old reliable car that I seldom-ever use and highly recommend this manufacturer out of Chicago for rotors (FREE shipping!)......

I also used these guys to have every single little part handed to me at my door. They allow a wide choice of price ranges on different brand parts for each item, as I wasn't glad to use the best that Auto-Zone has to offer, though mailing back "cores" is a pain and should be considered......

Breaking-in the new ceramic pads was a treat and now I am a-scared to stomp on the brakes for fear of triggering the air-bags!
