How much gear oil?

Post by gigglefeet » Mon Apr 25, 2016 10:47 pm

Hi all,

The technical specification post has the gear oil specifications at 6.4 oz which translates to 1.8kg and that makes no sense. even it is changed to liters then it comes out to 1.8 liters, but is that correct, I thought it was only something about 150-180ml.

What is the correct amount of gear oil to use after draining?

According to the Factory Service Manual: 6.4oz = 189ml
I believe kg is a measure of mass whereas ml is a measure of volume.
Personally, I do not 'measure' and just fill (while rocking the wheel back and forth) until it begins to run out and put the plug back in.
I don't believe it is an exacting critical measure like in a mercury thermometer.....
Also beware not to use a synthetic oil back there and stick to organic.......

2013 / 2015 manual states 0.12 drain and 0.14 disassembly...
I fill till it oozes back out the fill hole -so about 130ish ml allowing for a bit of spill, i use a 100ml syringe with an inch of plastic tube on the end. And use what is left of the engine oil after a change, engine takes about 850ml on a change to the max on the dip stick...
