Honda windshield and mirrors

Post by ndrw » Mon Feb 12, 2018 11:31 am

Hi,

Is it possible to replace mirrors with the Honda windscreen installed (2013+ model)? I gave it a quick try and it looks like I would have to disassemble the windscreen mount first.

If the above is not possible, how do I go about removing the mount? Any instructions or service manuals?

(rant: how come Honda could have designed an "official" accessory that is not compatible with the bike!)

YES.
There is a bit of a trick to it but the ingenious Honda folks
put right and left hand threads in the right places. I've done
it a few times but it's been awhile.
Break the locking nuts loose carefully-try both left and right hand turns.
I seem to have lost my PDF manual but maybe someone will jump in.

It is now problem to remove the mirrors without worry of the windshield.
There is an 'adapter' below the mirror stem nut, so you need 2 wrenches.
The right hand mirror the adapter screw is a 'left-handed' thread and the mirror stem is 'normal', so apply pressure with that in mind.
The left mirror has the adapter with a 'normal' thread and the mirror stem is 'left-handed' so apply pressure with these things in mind.
When it comes time to replace the mirrors, you MUST just lightly start the adapter on the mirror stem FIRST and try to almost immediately engage the threads in the bar or you run out of thread when trying to tighten the mirror,,,,hard to explain but you'll see and its no big problem.....
Good luck.

Thank you both, it worked! (of course it worked, it was just me being too dumb to figure it out on my own).

Indeed, putting the mirror back on can be quite fiddly. In my case the threads on the mirror were quite a bit longer than on the adapter.

I guess I have to take back the rant part of my post. Well done, Honda!
