Ride Like the Wind(chill).....

Post by TommyXP » Fri Jan 06, 2017 4:02 am

Snuck in a ride the other day and managed to keep my heart warm by thinking this is sissy-shit compared to the Original Iditorad:
http://www.history.com/news/the-sled-do ... e-iditarod
19° with a Westerly 20mph wind gusting to 30...My 'coldest' thus far.....

The car I've been neglecting since I got the SH is presently up on blocks with all the tires removed, under a canopy in the gravel drive, as I decided (brilliant!) now would be a good time to replace the ENTIRE braking system on the 18 year old Saturn which only gets used maybe twice a year...
About a month ago as I was hauling 350lbs of bird-seed (for the Winter) from a distant granary and as I was returning, the brake-pedal went right to the floor as I was about to pull into the driveway. I used the emergency brake to keep me out of the ditch. I am sooo very fortunate and blessed...Now, the mail-lady has been handing me parts for the last couple weeks and I am ~½ way done....The rust and corrosion on an old brake system is enough to try the patience of Job, as I roll around in the dirt and snow discovering impossible places to reach and gnaw on, as I am doing the 'lines' too.....

The 'ride' on my Wind-Horse Lungta, was only a 10 mile trip and would have been longer if not for that howling, punishing Wind...Good to have some fresh grub for a change even though I could 'hold-out' for months if necessary, BUT I needed a good excuse to go for a ride....
On the return ride I literally almost got blown off the road. Even though I was on the far right of the road against the wind, a gust pushed me about a foot across the center-line even though I was leaning as hard-right as I could....Seen a couple on-coming drivers with google-eyes as I reached beneath my crotch to check to see if my sphincter muscle was up-to-the-task ....The colder the air the thicker it is. Like a frigging wall.
Being well-dressed, the majority of 'me' was very comfortable and some parts were almost painful but in no ways life or limb threatening.....Actually dreaming of doing a 10°'er today as long as the snow continues to stay away. The only hard part is; that once arriving somewhere, people have an overwhelming tendency to come over with a big shit-eating-grin on their face and tell me I'm crazy and I have no alternative but to agree with them and divulge my Love for it.....

Speaking of Dreams: this is what Washington D.C. is going to look like come January 21st:

P.S. I think that if I had seen another rider, I would have fallen off the bike....

Did 13° with a 10mph Westerly Wind.....Again, another 10-mile jaunt to the bakery.
After the 20-30mph winds of the day-before, it actually 'felt' more Spring like.....
I am amazed how quickly our bodies acclimate themselves, once we overcome our purely fabricated mental obstacles and especially by ritually clothing oneself as best as one can imagine....Admiral Byrd would agree.
I am hoping I get a chance at a 0° before this exhilarating polar aire is covered with a blanket of warmth or worse yet, a layer of those pesky Snow-flakes.

I watched pt. 2 of the rat dog video. Awesome work dogs.
I don't think there are enough Terriers for D.C.

Agree, not enough terriers... That is why the multitudinous Patriotic Deplorable's have stepped into the hell-fire breech.....
The 'rats' are on the run across the globe!

You've made a James McMurtry fan outta me too!
I'm thinking the U.S. should replicate the soon coming southern wall along the 49th Parallel too, in an attempt to keep the bitter-cold Arctic temperatures in Winnipeg, where the populace bask and revel in it.....
