Lost SHcooter

Post by NADman » Tue Aug 29, 2017 2:47 pm

Had a meeting with my insurance co. and the verdict is I'll have to wait 30 days before
they decide what to do next. If it's 'found' it could be returned to me after a 'checkup'.
If not it will be written off and $$$ will be paid to me. Some improvements that I have
made (windshield-kickstand etc) will be considered. I also lost 2 helmets and a nice rain jacket. I think they
may be covered also.
So it's peak of the season and I don't have a bike.

I hope you are fairly compensated and discover something rewarding to fill the huge gap that few other things in this Life can fulfill like simply going for a ride.
If you find something, please don't tell me about it and burst my happy bubble.......

FOUND!!
Insurance co. called today and told me it has been 'recovered'.
First the police fingerprint, take pic's etc.
Second, it goes to the insurance co.'s lot for their own investigation.
Next, it goes to a Dealership of my choice where they will look for damage,
check fluids etc. (any hints here on what to ask for-oil-fuel-coolant change etc). I also
get to inspect the bike for damage at that time.
No other details at this time.
Thanks for your support everyone.

"Long" is relative. The stealership has already told me that they wouldn't have
time to even look at it for 5-10 days after they receive it, which has not happened yet
and it's the weekend now.
On the other hand my insurance allows me to rent a car until things are settled so
my lady is 'scooting' around in a brand new Kia Soul and has the biggest smile on her face,
plus I won't have to go to that "Dreaded" wedding this weekend, she's happy to go by herself,
and when she's happy so am I. HaHa

I went to the Insurance compound to have a look at the scoot.
Word is they are going to right it off. I haven't had an offer yet
but I'll be able to buy it back as opposed to them auctioning it
off.
The ignition switch is gone and a simple on/off switch wired in.
Windshield has a bottom corner broken. The "grill" panel that covers
the rad is gone. 2 small decorative pieces to the left and right of the
gauges are missing. The top box is there but a hole in the lock.
Everything inside that was gone.
Funny thing is I flipped on the 'Hot' switch and Everything works.
Started up instantly, all lights, horn, gauges etc. work. I found the
seat latch cable that they removed from the ign. switch and gave it a pull.
The seat popped up and everything I left in was there. The fuel gauge
reads empty. The dummys couldn't find the fuel filler and abandoned it.
Still trying to figure out how the Fork Lock works. Can't seem to find anything
about it in my shop manual.

New ign. switch from Honda about $100., New grill about $40.
Does anyone here have any of these parts?

Ok, good i guess this all is good news
An on/off switch sounds good to me
Do you know who took it ? Must be a real desparate person
Anyway, good you have the sh back ;)

The fork lock should be easy: turn the steering to the left as well as the ignition key and wiggle the steering a bit... Aaaahh nooo.... You just have an on/off switch now.... ;)

Cheers,
Toni

Hope the insurance company makes up their mind soon so you still get some time to ride before the snow flys. As far as the fork lock, you should be able to figure it out when you replace the ignition switch which is described in the shop manual.

They decided to write it off. I have the $$ already. (good deal)
Now it comes up for salvage auction this Wed (27th) and I will try to buy it back.
I'm #14 on the list of over 400 vehicles.

Should be interesting.....Hopefully you'll be the only one there who knows where the true value lies; and it is not in the cosmetics......
