LED brake light

Post by NADman » Mon Jul 02, 2018 1:43 pm

Has anyone had any experience with this particular add on brake light?
Back in May I had 2 incidents where I was stopped at a traffic light and
was almost rear ended by someone texting or yacking on a phone. In one
case I heard the ABS brakes chirp-chirping before it came to a stop not
2 ft from my rear. Not sure on the legality's of using police-emergency type
red strobe lights.
Saw some red strobe lights made for bicycles that where blindingly bright
but the price ($150.00) and the fact that they are USB chargeable, not 12V
and can't really be hooked up to brake light wire left me thinking there
should be an easier-12V way.

That appears to be the same light bar I used in an attempt to prevent the same thing as you intend, back when I added 3 extra STOP lights to the top-case.
It appears to have been updated though and the sequential lights are now only activated during stopping and turn-signal mode according to the listing; thus rendering them 'lawful'. On mine, (same 3 wires) it was hooked up to the STOP light (no sequencing) and then to the 'running' lights which had it sequencing whenever the ignition was on, and in order to prevent being potentially hassled by a nitpicking cop, I installed a small switch in the front of the case and ran them when I felt like it (in constant sequential mode) but the brake light functioned constant when braking applied.

Thinking now, I wonder how the heck they expect you to wire this into the turn-signals with only 3 wires being shown in the advertisement? One wire is obviously negative ground; one would be STOP; and then which of your TWO turn-signals would you wire the remaining wire to?????? Can't be both can it?
Anyways, the light bar has been functioning well since 2013 and the installation was described in this old post:

Alert: I also noticed this in the reviews to this item:

I know they make a kit so the brake light flashes when you hit the brake and then stays a steady red. I also added two strips of this yellow hi viz reflective tape to the plastic part of my bumper plus I wear a hi viz vest with night reflective tape. It does give me a false sense of security.

Can't beat this for 5 bucks.

I like the idea of reflective tape but would have to find some that could conform to non flat areas.

Have you thought of putting this on your bumper?
