That was a great deal. Here in the U.S. the parts alone would probably be $200.00. A good mechanic that you can trust is worth his weight in gold.

Oil level measuring, dip stick dipping can be a varied event...
'quick to dip' after a recent oil change or top up, or a 'I-better-just-check' overnight, first thing before a ride...
An old Suzuki engine I had never liked being at the top end of the full scale - would spit it out in to the air box breather... liked to be no more than 3/4 full on the sight glass...
Maybe check only in the morning after an overnight sit...

Good mechanics are 'worth their weight in gold' for sure.
I've known a few and 'god' never even came close to 'blessing' them.
